Responsible to Head of Assurance and Health & Safety
Main purpose of the post
To support the Company Secretary in the delivery of the governance function as a strategic driver of change and in the delivery of our strategic priorities. Ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 by conducting thorough risk assessments and surveys to safeguard our premises. To be responsible for the delivery of the fire safety framework across the business and to be the subject matter expert in fire safety and fire management, influencing the business, our customers and the community, on the importance of keeping homes safe.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs).
- Carry out 'detailed' fire safety surveys of the fire precautions both passive and active.
- Review the current program for Fire Risk Assessment inspections and undertake desktop reviews where appropriate.
- Provide technical fire safety advice to colleagues and contractors.
- Liaise with South Wales Fire and Rescue Service Business Safety team including operational crews.
- Ensure any issues raised by the Fire Service are promptly addressed.
- Oversee and assure the quality of works conducted by contractors.
- To lead on education and influencing behaviour at customer engagement activities or events.
- Oversee fire door inspection programme, including completing inspections as required.
- To carry out post fire inspections when necessary and report any findings and actions required to the Head of Assurance and Health & Safety.
- Work across our estates, collaborating with both internal and external teams.
General
- To co-operate with Hafod in complying with relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post

Person specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
- Knowledge and understanding of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Building Regulations – Approved Document B and CLG Fire Safety Guides
- NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety or equivalent
- Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety (Fire Inspectors)
- Knowledge and understanding of Various British Standards regarding fire safety including – BS 5839; BS 5266; BS 5306; BS 9251; BS 9999
- Fire safety studies foundation degree/Fire engineering degree*
- Graduate/Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers – or similar e.g. IFSM
- Confident fire safety professional with a minimum of five years’ experience
- Knowledge and experience of the Fire Risk Assessment process including specifying and inspecting passive fire protection works
