Young People Support Worker

We are seeking four compassionate Support Workers to help young people experiencing homelessness build confidence, develop life skills and move towards independence.

Location: Burnage Lane and Safestop Manchester
Salary: £28,836 per annum for full-time roles; part-time salary pro rata
Hours: Three night roles at 37.5 hours per week and one weekend role at 30 hours per week
Contract: Permanent

The vacancies

• Two full-time Night Young People Support Workers at Burnage Lane
• One full-time Night Young People Support Worker at Safestop Manchester
• One part-time Weekend Young People Support Worker at Safestop Manchester

The night roles follow a two-week rolling rota, with three shifts one week and four the next. Shifts are currently 9.30pm to 8am. Please state your preferred role and location in your application.

About the role

As Young People Support Worker you will support young people aged 18 to 25 who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. You will help create a safe, welcoming environment and work alongside each young person as they plan their next steps.

You will:

• Act as a key worker, building trusted relationships and providing practical and emotional support.
• Complete needs and risk assessments and develop support plans with clear, achievable goals.
• Help young people build independent living skills and access education, training, employment and volunteering.
• Respond to safeguarding concerns and work with partner agencies to support young people’s wellbeing.
• Support residents moving into the service and encourage them to have a say in decisions that affect them.

About you

You will have experience supporting young people or people who have experienced homelessness. You will understand some of the challenges associated with poor mental health and substance misuse, and know how to maintain professional boundaries while offering compassionate support.

You will also bring good communication and IT skills, an understanding of safeguarding, and a commitment to treating everyone with dignity and respect. In your application, please address the person specification and give examples of your relevant experience.
